Breeding Purebred Myotonic (Fainting) Goats
Wabash, Indiana
Wabash, Indiana
Myotonic goats can be used for meat, livestock shows, breeding, and pets.
They do not actually faint. Their leg muscles lock up for only a few seconds.
They do not feel any type of pain when they faint. The goat is fully aware the whole time.
Wildly known as fainting goats. These goats have roots in Tennessee. Due to a recessive gene, their muscles lock up when startled or excited. When their muscles lock up they are unable to move for a few seconds, some may even fall over. The contraction of the muscles when startled or excited makes them heavily muscled in the rump and chest. The heavy muscle and low fat make them good meat goats.
Myotonic goats are quieter than the other breeds of goats. Myotonic goats are highly trainable. These goats have an amazing ability to adapt to foraging. It is well known that goats are social animals. That being said they should not be kept alone. Myotonic goats are generally friendly and can be safe with kids.
